Rosetta Set Review: Every Hero Graded

Rosetta is Flesh and Blood's most ambitious set since Monarch. Introducing four double-faced heroes — each with a front and back face representing two different states of the same character — fundamentally changes how we think about hero design. This is our full grade breakdown.

The Double-Face Mechanic

Before the grades: what does double-faced actually mean in FaB?

Each Rosetta hero has two faces. One is the hero card you start the game with. The other is a transformed state that you can access through specific card effects during the game. The transformed state has a different ability — sometimes more powerful, sometimes more situational — and represents a narrative shift in the character's story.

The key design question is whether the transformation is reliable enough to build around.

Aurora / Aurora, Shooting Star

Grade: A-

Aurora's base form gives you incremental resource generation tied to playing elemental actions. Her transformed state, Aurora Shooting Star, adds a damage multiplier to consecutive elemental chains.

The transformation trigger is accessible in most hands once you hit turn 3–4. The ceiling on her power turns is legitimately scary — a turn-5 transformation into a full elemental chain can deal 15+ damage before your opponent has defensive options.

Competitive viability: High. Expect Aurora to feature prominently in early Classic Constructed results.

Verdance / Verdance, Thorn of the Rose

Grade: B+

Verdance plays as a defensive setup hero on her base face — generating plant tokens and building board presence. Her transformed form, Thorn of the Rose, converts that token generation into direct offensive value.

The issue is tempo. Verdance needs 2–3 turns to establish her board before the transformation pays off. Against aggressive decks, those turns are a liability.

Competitive viability: Medium. Strong in mid-range metas but struggles into aggro. Worth watching if the format slows down.

Oscilio / Oscilio, Constella Intelligence

Grade: A

Oscilio is the standout of the set. His base form generates star tokens tied to pitch, and his transformed form — Constella Intelligence — weaponises those tokens into an arcane damage engine.

What makes Oscilio exceptional: his transformation is pitch-neutral. You can trigger it while playing a completely normal hand, unlike Aurora or Verdance who need specific subtype density. This makes him consistent in a way the other Rosetta heroes aren't.

Competitive viability: Very high. Oscilio's arcane damage route bypasses traditional blocking entirely — a huge advantage in a format where blocking is the primary defence.

Florian / Florian, Rotwood Harbinger

Grade: B

Florian is the control hero of the set. Base Florian generates graveyard recursion — pulling back key cards from the pitch pile. Rotwood Harbinger adds an on-hit effect that multiplies those recursion triggers.

The problem: Florian needs cards to already be in the graveyard to generate value. In the early game, he's effectively vanilla. By mid-game, his recursion becomes powerful — but many aggressive opponents will have already built a significant life lead.

Competitive viability: Medium. Strong in grindy formats, weak in fast metas. Best positioned as a sideboard threat in best-of-three events.

Set Rating: 9/10

Rosetta is an exceptional set. The double-faced mechanic is well-executed, each hero feels distinct, and the narrative integration is the strongest in FaB history. Even if Verdance and Florian are below the top tier competitively, they're engaging to play and add real diversity to the format.

The one criticism: the complexity of tracking transformation states adds overhead to tournament play that may be intimidating for newer players.
