S Tier
Monkey D. Luffy — OP-01 Red
Style: Full aggro
Life: 5
Win rate at major events: ~58%
Luffy remains the benchmark aggressor. His Leader ability triggers when you attack with him while having a certain DON!! count attached, dealing additional life damage. Red Luffy decks can hit 7 life damage as early as turn 4–5 with optimal hands.
Why he's S tier:
- Fastest consistent clock in the format
- Straw Hat crew synergies are unmatched — the type has the most support of any crew
- Straightforward to pilot, but has incredible ceiling for optimised play
- Recent sets have added new Straw Hat pieces that only made the engine stronger
Weakness: If you fall behind early and don't hit your DON!! curve, you run out of gas.
Eustass Kid — Black/Green
Style: Midrange with counter burn
Life: 5
Win rate at major events: ~55%
Kid's leader ability fires when your opponent's leader is attacked — he generates additional pressure by deploying characters during the opponent's attack phase. This reactive element makes him extremely difficult to deal with cleanly.
Why he's S tier:
- Two-colour access to both Green ramp and Black removal
- Can build a board while the opponent is attacking — unique and hard to play around
- Excellent late game — Kid decks stabilise and turn the corner reliably
Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom) — Yellow/Purple
Style: Life drain / counter life engine
Life: 6 (starts with extra life)
Win rate at major events: ~53%
Big Mom's 6-life starting total is already an advantage, and her deck generates additional life during the game through a unique mechanic. She's the premier control leader in the current format.
Why she's S tier:
- Nearly unkillable in the long game when played correctly
- Yellow life-gain cards create increasingly awkward situations for opponents who run out of damage
- Homie type synergies provide excellent board presence
- High durability makes her a safe pick in unknown metas
A Tier
Trafalgar Law — Blue
Style: Tempo control
Life: 5
Law is the premier blue leader. His Room ability — returning opponent's characters to their hand — is among the most powerful effects in the game. Blue Law decks play a tempo game: answer threats, generate card advantage, and close with a few large characters.
The play: Hold DON!! open to threaten Law's return effect. Opponents play around it, which means they play sub-optimally. Even when you don't activate it, the threat has value.
Roronoa Zoro (Film Red) — Red/Green
Style: Aggro ramp
Life: 5
Film Zoro benefits from Green ramp to deploy more Red aggro pieces than opponents can handle. The two-colour synergy is clean and the payoffs are high-powered Straw Hat characters.
Yamato — Green
Style: Ramp midrange
Life: 5
Yamato's Green ramp engine gets to 10 DON!! one turn faster than most leaders. That advantage snowballs — every action a Yamato player takes from turn 4 onward is a full tempo ahead.
Sakazuki — Red/Black
Style: Removal control
Life: 5
The Marines leader. Sakazuki's ability destroys a character with 6000 or less power when DON!! conditions are met. Combined with the best removal suite in the game (Red and Black), Sakazuki prevents opponents from establishing a board. Powerful but requires precise resource management.
B Tier
Nami — Blue
Pure draw engine leader. Nami's deck generates enormous card advantage but lacks the closing power of higher-tier leaders. Excellent in slower metas.
Crocodile — Black
Sand Sand Fruit mechanic counters specific archetypes hard but has too many bad matchups against the current field.
Marco — Yellow/Blue
The Phoenix healer. Marco generates life and stalls effectively but struggles to close games before opponents adjust.
Boa Hancock — Purple
Unique DON!! recycling mechanic. High ceiling in expert hands, inconsistent execution from average pilots.
Matchup Notes
Luffy vs. Law
Blue Law needs to stabilise by turn 3. If Luffy hits a life by turn 2, Law is under constant pressure. Best practice: Blue Law mulligans aggressively for early blockers.
Kid vs. Big Mom
This is the premier meta matchup. Kid's reactive board deployment contests Big Mom's life gain. Games between these two leaders routinely go to time.
Yamato vs. Luffy
Yamato's ramp means she has bigger characters online faster than Luffy expects. If Yamato hits her turn-3 DON!! acceleration, Luffy's pressure window closes quickly.
What to Play Right Now
If you want to win: Red Luffy or Eustass Kid — highest consistent win rates.
If you want to learn the meta: Trafalgar Law — understanding his tempo game teaches you the fundamentals.
If you want to build toward the future: Big Mom — yellow life mechanics are only getting more support in upcoming sets.
The meta is healthy and diverse. No single leader is so dominant that events lack variety. Multiple archetypes have legitimate paths to winning a tournament.
